A nice way to end 2019.  A gold placement in the $20 Freebies freeroll.

Final Table Report - 12/30/19

A decent run in another Omaha tournament.  I was in a good position near the end... until the end.  A disastrous hand (where my top pair wasn't sufficient to win).  The right move would've been to fold earlier.

No Longer Zero!

Well, I've continued to play 10 cent blasts and I've finally pulled above zero.  A whole quarter!

One Year; 100K

Well, 2019 is almost done, and I've completed my goal on playing 100K hands on PokerSnowie.

Here's some stats:

Cumulative Average# of Hands20K Average
After 20K16.5120,56716.65
After 40K15.3140,93913.71
After 60K15.0761,09814.63
After 80K14.1081,12311.25
After 100K13.48101,13711.00

As the table above shows, I improved with each block of 20K of hands (unweighted averages).  I started with a score of about 16.65 (the unweighted average for the first 20K hands).  That would earn me an 'intermediate' rating.  A score of around 11 puts me at 'expert'.  (8 is the dividing line between expert and world class. Better than 4 gives you an extra-terrestrial rating.)

I do feel I've improved this year.  I don't think I'd call myself an expert, though.

My account expires in early January, and I'm debating whether to renew.

Pros:

  • It lets you put in unlimited volume against serious competition at a relatively low buy in.
  • Errors get flagged immediately during play for reinforcement.
  • Preflop skills get polished pretty quickly.
Cons:
  • It's sometimes tough to understand what the error was, and so hard to visualize how to improve.  PokerSnowe tells you that you've lost EV (expected value) but it's not clear sometimes what lesson should be learned.
    • It does seem clear that I did improve so some of these lessons have been internalized.  Improvement looks to have slowed over time.
  • My account froze inexplicably in some of the early months due to how their system is set up.  Customer support refused to credit me for the lost usage.  An extra couple of days tacked on my account would seem to be fair for being locked out of my account.
  • It can be tough to grind out the volume, as playing for actual cash is more enjoyable.
At this point, I'm leaning toward renewal along with some type of volume goal for 2020.  Not sure if I'd be able to hit 100K again...  I should also learn how to use the scenarios, as I never took advantage of that feature.

Final Table Report - 12/28/19

Not a half bad showing.  A large field and a few lucky flops gave me a 4th place finish.

Final Table Report - 12/24/19

A deep run on the $50 daily freeroll -- enough to collect silver.

I was the chip leader for a bit of time.  There was a chance to clinch first place, but lost a few key hands (I had the better preflop hand, but the right cards didn't land).  Still pretty pleased.  I almost blinded out but had built a decent stack on a few, admittedly, lucky breaks.

My Last 100 $20 Freebies Freerolls

As I've mentioned, I enjoy the $20 Freebies Freerolls on 888 NJ.  Given how few prizes there are (4 no matter the size of the field), it's pretty rewarding to end up in the money.

From PokerProLabs, here's the stats on my last 100 tries:

  • Top 25% of participants:  40% of the time.
  • Final Table:  31% of the time.
  • In the Money:  14% of the time.
In these 100 tries, on average, final table represented 16.7% of the field, and in the money represented 7.4% of the field.

Another way of visualizing this information is to value each entry and compare the amount 'spent' with the amount won.  I did this by assuming the total tournament would collect $22.22 from players, collect a 10% rate, and pay out $20.  The cost of each entry would, therefore, be $22.22 divided by the number of players.

Using this metric, each tournament cost about 41 cents whereas my average win per tournament was 70 cents.  That's a ROI of ~69.4%.  Pretty sizable, but much of the field isn't playing their best (since the entry didn't cost anything.)
